For 2017, Mercedes-Benz reduced the cost of their one and only electric vehicle/hatchback, added a new Lunar Blue metallic paint, Electric Blue interior package, and restructured the B-Class’ packaging structure for the 2017 model year. This 5-seat, pure electric’s drive system includes a lithium-ion battery pack, an EV drivetrain and a 132-kw electric motor from Tesla providing 177 horsepower.
The EV goes from 0 to 60 in 6.8 seconds and is capable of 100 mph. Its batteries can be charged with a 60 mile range on 240V in a little over 2 hrs and when fully charged, provide an EPA-rated 84 mile range, though many drivers claim it gets 87 to 90 miles per charge. Car and Driver says it's a car "for eco-warriors with a penchant for finer things. Electric-only motoring for well-heeled members of the Sierra Club. The B250e is everything a Mercedes-Benz should be – comfortable, well built, and quietly luxurious."
In 2017, the car adopted a simpler name – B250e – and with the base price dropped $1550 to $39,900, it's more affordable. It has a stylish, comfortable, roomy cabin with excellent visibility and plenty of cargo space. The versatility of folding rear seats and a wide-opening hatch makes loading easy.
B250e comes equipped with the Mbrace 2 telematics system, a 5.8-inch LCD, a USB connection (which can be used to run a tablet), navigation, collision prevention assistance and active parking assist. Additional standard equipment includes a 7-inch color screen, power front seats with memory, automatic headlight with twilight sensor and locator lighting, rain-sensing wipers, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel with Bluetooth. By using the Vehicle Homepage, the driver can remotely interact with the vehicle using a PC or smartphone and, for instance, determine things like remaining charging time, display a planned route, or set the timing for the pre-heating or pre-cooling of the vehicle.
The B250e comes with available Active Brake Assist with adaptive braking technology that is comprised of Predictive Brake Priming, Automatic Brake Drying, Hill-Start Assist and brake hold feature. Additional driver assistance systems include Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Parking Pilot. Mercedes' “Energy Space” safely accommodates the battery under the floor for ensured protection in the event of a crash. The B-Class ED’s efficiency and styling, plus the standard high levels of safety, durability, luxury and ownership experience provided by Mercedes make this crossover highly competitive with other models in its class.
The B250e comes with a Hybrid/Electric Components Warranty of 8 Years/100,000 Miles. This EV is eligible for HOV stickers, a California State Rebate of $2500 and a Federal Tax Credit of $7500.
